I think I just witnessed a high speed police chase

What happened:

I was driving westbound on the Poplar Street Bridge into Saint Louis (I-64), when I saw blue lights in my mirror. I looked again as I began to slow down.

"Wait... what? WHAT IS... OH CRAP!" I said, when I saw a blue Pontiac Grand Am speeding along with an Illinois State Police Charger in hot pursuit. They had to be going like 75-80 (I was doing 55). The Pontiac weaved through traffic and hopped onto I-55 South, but the Cop exited into downtown.

I'm guessing he either couldn't get over quick enough, or maybe it has something jurisdiction. I don't know the laws, so I have no idea. There was just one cop in pursuit, so I'm guessing the chase was fresh. This happened a few hours ago, but I'm not finding any news about it.
